Colleen Ann Connery is a realist painter, who uses mixed media to convey a semi surreal environment, often working from her musical influences, conveying the energy felt through the musical expression she herself has been a part of as an independent musician for most of her life. The detail and perspective from which she portrays her musical subjects reflects on her personal journey as a song writer and musician, often using layers of the musical process such as note sheets diary pages and concert photos. Colleen’s subjects also include past and current visionaries with an ethereal presence to the portraits possibly influenced by the historical town of Salem Massachusetts which she is from. The inspirational people from the past and present become resurrected and memorialized with intention and admiration.
Colleen studied at The Art Institute of Boston and Montserrat College of Art from which she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting. Studying with the late author and figurative artist Nathan Goldstein at The Art Institute of Boston. Barbara Moody who inspired the mixed media process and Judith Brassard Brown who helped develop the realist method style of the Renaissance, both at Montserrat College of Art in Beverly Massachusetts. Some of her most recent subjects include actress and comedian Lucille Ball, musician David Bowie and actor comedian Robin Williams. Her work is displayed in a number of private collections along side masters such as Pablo Picasso and Camille Pissaro.
